GENERAL NOTICES ABOUT INSTALLING OR UPDATING X-SETUP PRO
- X-Setup Pro does NOT contain any backdoor software: it *IS NOT* ad-based or spy ware-enabled! Your privacy *IS NOT* at risk by using X-Setup Pro!
- X-Setup Pro does not interfere with any other system utility nor does it change any configuration by just installing it (except adding some harmless empty lines to MSDOS.SYS on W95/98/ME systems which the OS just ignores). Therefore, you can always install it and give it a try.
- In some very rare cases, Anti-Virus software can cause X-Setup Pro to crash (GPFing). In this case, please disable your Anti-Virus software before starting SETUP.EXE or using X-Setup Pro.
- If you have deactivated your Anti-Virus software and Setup still shows a GPF ("SETUP caused an invalid page fault in...") some of your system components are badly damaged. You might try to install the latest Internet Explorer from Microsoft which often is able to fix the problem. If IE's setup also displays a GPF, the best solution are, sorry to say, FORMAT C:\.
- Because X-Setup Pro contains more than 850 plug-ins that are all created using VBScript, some Anti-Virus software may try to "analyze" every plug-in and thus slowing down the setup process of X-Setup dramatically. Normally, the setup process does not take any longer than two minutes but some users have reported setup durations of 30 minutes and more! If this happens to you, just cancel setup, stop the On-Access scanner of you Anti-Virus software and restart setup. After setup is finished, you can simply scan the entire \X-Setup Pro\ folder to make sure that there are no viruses.
Some firewall or anti-virus software allows you to activate a system security module which traces all programs started on your computer. These modules, when configured incorrectly, can cause X-Setup Pro to behave incorrectly and display incorrect error messages.
If you are using this type of tool, please make sure that all application inside the X-Setup Pro path (normally C:\Program Files\X-Setup Pro\bin) are allowed to start, modifying and launching other programs.
Configuration Kerio Firewall 4 and up: Right-click on the Firewall icon in your tray, select "Configuration" and then "System Security". You should see some of the X-Setup Pro applications listed - make sure that all of them have a green checkmark (=allowed) at "Starting", "Modifying" and "Launching others".
Other software will be configured differently, but the general task will be the same as with Kerio Firewall.
To remove X-Setup Pro, use Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.
If the Control Panel is opened while you are uninstalling X-Setup Pro on a Windows 95/98/ME/NT system, Setup can't remove the icon inside Control Panel because it's locked. If this happens, just close Control Panel, search for "dcXSPApplet.cpl" and delete it.
This does not apply for Windows 2000 and upwards systems.
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNINSTALLING X-SETUP PRO DOES *NOT* REVERT ANY CHANGES YOU HAVE MADE USING X-SETUP PRO!
X-Setup Pro requires some system components that are include in every edition of Windows since Windows NT 4.0 and upwards. X-Setup Pro will check itself for the availability of these components before it starts and will display an error if they are missing.
Important: Windows 95/98 without Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer etc. has an outdated "OLEAUT32.DLL" which is required to run X-Setup Pro. This means, if you are trying to execute SETUP.EXE, it will fail with the message "A connected device does not work" or "Method xxx not found in OLEAUT32.DLL"!
To fix this issue, you need to download and install the updated COM library (Version 1.3 or later) from Microsoft.
